This is a strip that will likely fly over the heads of anyone who reads my stuff that ISN'T also a cartoonist, but hopefully will hit square between the eyes for my fellow inkslingers. (And/or, digital inkslingers, as the case may be.)
For those curious about who Wally Wood was and what his 22 panels are, you can read all about it and see the original HERE. It's an invaluable guide to ways to, as described here in the strip, add much-needed life and excitement to otherwise dull scenes in a comic. (Special thanks to Larry Hama for sharing the original with the world!)
I've wanted to try my had at drawing them all myself over the years, and decided to finally give it a crack with a twist: could I also tell a STORY using those exact panel layouts? After gabbing about my idea with my frequent Giant Girl Adventures collaborator and bestie, Sabrina Pandora, the basic structure and premise of this strip took shape. Yes, this is self-indulgent as all get out, but I had a LOT of fun working this out, and I hope you enjoy the final results!

Hahaha - this is BRILLIANT!!! Amazing how you made a narrative work with those 22! I especially love the car (“Ugh, we should have done this over Zoom”) and the newspaper (“Rick takes out the trash!”) and the ending is just… wow… hilarious, witty, clever! Well done!
I really got a kick out of this. I liked the reference too. One question: what is ben, as in ben day?
